November Cutting Day and Movie Night

Sun, 3 Nov 2024
14:00 - 17:00

The Sunday after Halloween, bring at least 3 uncarved pumpkins. Everything else will be provided.

In the 1940s, during World War II, the Japanese government developed the most advanced training for cutting with a sword which was ever developed, known as Tameshigiri. If you've ever heard about Katanas being sharp enough to cut through bullets or cannonballs, it isn't because of the sword: it's because of the training.

For this cutting day, students will be handed a blunt sword with which to cut through the pumpkins they brought. The way that the sword passes through the watermelon will provide me with information I can use to give feedback to the student on their cutting dynamics and edge alignment.

The movie this time will be DragonHeart, one of the movies that led me to include the word "Chivalry" in the name of this club.

I will be projecting the movie up onto the wall of the gym. Bring a picnic blanket if you'd like, or I will provide chairs. Pizza will be provided with the movie.

Let me know if you have any questions.

"A knight is sworn to valor,
His heart knows only virtue,
His blade defends the helpless,
His might upholds the weak,
His word speaks only truth,
His wrath undoes the wicked."
